Sri Pada, also known as Adam's Peak, is an extraordinary sacred site and a natural wonder nestled in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, revered by followers of multiple faiths from around the globe. While Buddhists believe the indentation at the summit is the sacred footprint of Lord Buddha, Hindus associate it with Lord Shiva, and Muslims and Christians believe it to be the footprint of Adam. The annual pilgrimage season, which begins on the Unduvap Full Moon Poya day in December and ends on the Vesak Poya day in May, sees hundreds of thousands of devotees braving the cold and exhaustion to reach the summit. Ascending through routes like Hatton or Ratnapura, involving thousands of steep steps, is a test of both physical endurance and mental fortitude. One of the most breathtaking experiences at the summit is witnessing the "Ira Sewaya" or the sunrise. As the first rays of the sun paint the sky in golden hues, the mountain casts a perfect triangular shadow over the western misty horizon—a spectacular natural phenomenon that leaves observers in awe. 🌅⛅✨

Beyond its spiritual significance, the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary surrounding the mountain is a biodiversity hotspot of immense ecological importance. It serves as the primary catchment area for Sri Lanka's four major rivers—the Mahaweli, Kelani, Kalu, and Walawe—and is home to unique wildlife and precious gemstones.
